Ronald McDonald House

One of the ways we reach out to our neighbors is by serving dinners at the Ronald McDonald House every other month. We've found it works well to have two or three volunteers help. Although you can cook at RMH (they have a beautiful kitchen) we have been cooking in advance and then re-heating and serving. Set-up time at RMH usually takes about an hour.

We split the duties with one person bringing the main course, one the vegetable or salad, and the third provides dessert. If the house is full (which it usually is) we cook for about 40 people. Residents do the clean up so we just put the food out and leave.

Funding for this program is through our church's mission money. If you help cook, you can save your receipts and turn them in to be reimbursed.

Those of us who have participated found it to be both rewarding and fun. It's a wonderful way to help some families whose children are facing medical crises. We've had some great chats with mothers and grandmothers and met some sweet children. After you setup dinner, if time and staffing allows, they will gladly give you a tour of the facility. If you are interested in volunteering, please see Ann Finger or Shelly Carithers.
